7 & 8th May 2011 - Mother’s Day @ Tanglin Club

On Mother’s day weekend, Lotus Culture set  up booths at the Main Lobby & the Wheelhouse function room for raising awareness and fundraising to help to rebuild lives of survivors of human trafficking and sexual slavery. Tanglin Club provided full event support and facilities for this philanthropic occasion.

There was the Board collage for children to make dedications to their mother and at the same time make a donation, remembering the less fortunate in Cambodia. Simple and loving messages filled the collage as children with mothers’, and at times father in tow (to make the donation of course!) visited the Wheelhouse.

Jewellery - a sure attraction, did not disappoint as many ladies came by to admire the exquisite designs and indulge with a present to self to celebrate Mother’s day, at the same time knowing that a percentage of all proceeds will be donated to Lotus Culture for the Cambodian cause.

The rack of children’s costumes which included Tinkerbell, Fireman Sam, SnowWhite,  Maid Marian, Robin Hood and many more attracted much interest, though naturally it was mainly mothers’ who were making the purchase for their children – another illustration of Mum’s never abating love!

Finally there were arts & crafts comprising “exclusive single edition” hand sewn Quilts and hand painted decorative/functional articles. These attracted many admirers and for some who also appreciated the hard labour involved, purchases were made both for the aesthetic as well as the donation element of the buy.

Besides the support through purchases, many also stopped by the booths to find out more about what Lotus Culture was doing, some immediately took the step of outright donations whilst others expressed interest to help in other ways or took away a flyer for further reflections.

Lotus Culture would like to express sincere thanks to Tanglin Club and volunteers, the artists donors and customers, who all helped make this event a success.
